We are all influenced by other people. Those we associate ourselves with help shape who we are.
This includes those we know personally, like family, friends, and co-workers. And it also includes those we “follow,” such as people on social media, authors, and others in the media.
We learn and grow from seeing what other people are doing, both good and bad.
But through our interactions with others, it’s important to remember to live your own life. This means allowing others to help give insight into our choices, but not make them for us.
How to Keep Influence in Check
Everybody is living their own life. We all have our own history, goals, values, and choices that we have to make for ourselves.
As we allow other people’s actions to influence us, we have to remain independent and remember that we are each living our own life.
- Just because somebody values something, does not mean you need to value it too.
- Just because somebody has a certain mindset, does not mean you need to think it too.
- Just because somebody made a certain choice, does not mean you need to make it too.
As we interact with others, especially “influencers” on social media platforms, it’s important that you think independently. Keep in mind that these people are intentionally building a platform on telling you what to do.
Have the confidence to make your own choices.
Think about the values that drive you. Set your own goals. Enjoy your own life. And accomplish what is meaningful to you
