It’s good to stop and remind ourselves that there are people on the other side.
It’s easy when using an online platform like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Reddit, etc., to forget that all those “internet users” are real people.
Real people that are reading the comments you are writing. Real people that are feeling real emotions based on the discussions that are occurring.
A Big Room
Just imagine if instead of joining discussions through internet comments, we were all in one big room.
In this big room, we’d be having the same discussions as we are online platforms, except we’d be doing it face-to-face. We’d see each others emotions, we’d have to make eye contact with one another as we say the things we say.
Do you think the discourse would be the same?
Would you comment the same way?
Would we instantly jump to the conclusion that the other person is an idiot or evil?
The world would certainly be a better place if everybody remembered that there are people on the side.

I love this simple thought and reminder.
Would you say what you are typing face to face?
Everyone needs to read this.
