Life’s Zoom Feature

Zooming in, and zooming out.

Changing your life’s zoom level is a great way to change your perspective. Especially when you feel like life is overwhelming or not going your way. 

By zooming in, you can be more mindful. You can focus on the present moment, your breath, your body, and objectively observe your thoughts as they come and go.

By zooming out, you can see the broader seasons of life. You can remember how things have been resolved in the past, and you can see that your current issues won’t be a big deal in the distant future. 

Using life’s zoom feature is a way to help change your time preference. You don’t get stuck looking for short term fixes or chasing happiness when you understand that life is more than your immediate desires.  

Next time you find yourself in a hard place, try adjusting your zoom level.  See if you can zoom in to gain control of your thoughts, and zoom out to build perspective.
