The reality is that life can be hard. There is no shortage of suffering, unfairness, and destruction. And at the end of it all… death.
When faced with the world, it’s easy to become overwhelmed and enter a state of despair. A belief in Nihilism, or that life is “meaningless,” is the safe assumption to come to.
But what if you moved on from such an easy answer? What if you found your own meaning?
Simple Living to Find Purpose
It takes courage to tell yourself that you are going to fight through the difficulties in life, face reality, and then find a higher purpose. Find meaning in your life.
As a lifestyle philosophy, simple living enables you to better pursue a life with purpose. As you simplify your possessions, relationships, and way of thinking, you keep removing the clutter until you are left with what is important.
Without a real purpose, we feel lost. Simple living exposes this. We lust after new vehicles, a bigger house, or new relationships, only because we don’t have the lust for life instead.
For many people, we don’t know what is important. Why is it that we wake up each day?
Finding Your Personal Meaning
When you are able to live for something larger then yourself, you’ll find that life becomes more meaningful. The dark realities of life are still there, but you are able to fight through them knowing that you have a reason to do so.
Everybody has to find their own personal meaning in life. It’s part spiritual and part practical to develop. And it’s not to say that as you progress through your life that you won’t come to adapt your personal purpose in this life.
I encourage you to take time to reflect on why you continue to live. What is so important to you, that you don’t just throw your hands up and claim defeat when life throws challenges your way?
For some people, it might be raising their kids. For others, it could be passion for environmental conservation, a charitable cause, or another project close to their heart. For many across the globe, their religion itself provides their purpose.
The key is to find a purpose that is larger than you. Something you can contribute to that makes this difficult life a little better, more beautiful, for yourself and others.
Have courage. Find your meaning and live your life.
