As the old saying goes, “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.”
There is a reason to give thanks to 2020. This is a year that made many of us stronger.
The challenges that we’ve faced this year have shown us what we can overcome. Being forced into isolation, major economic shutdowns, political strife, public health crises, etc… Through it all, we are still here.
Making it through these bad times only makes us stronger. Like building muscle through working out. Or, unironically, building your immune system through exposure to new viruses… facing new types of challenges only makes us more resilient.
I’ve personally had my share of 2020’s wrath. Business shutdowns hit close to home. Family members passed away. And I’ve seen many people struggle with isolation related mental illness.
Through all of it, I’ve learned more about myself. These hard times are like a spotlight on our lives, dramatically exposing us to what matters most, and what does not. They also remind us and force us to accept, that life is not always easy.
But instead of letting uncontrollable forces control us, we can take ownership of our lives. We can use this perspective to build a better life for ourselves.
While we can’t predict the future, we can start down the path of a better tomorrow. With this newfound strength, we know that more is possible.
