Have you ever tried to give needed advice to a friend? It can be a frustrating experience.
Especially when you can clearly see a solution to a problem they are having. Or if it’s obvious that a behavior/mindset they hold is negatively effecting their life.
Despite our attempts to help them “see the light”, most of the time our friends are too stuck in their own way of thinking to see the objective truth.
Telling them that they need to do X, or change their thinking to Y, is often a fruitless game. Their own egos, thought patterns, and inability to remove themselves from the situation make it difficult to take advice.
Advice To Yourself
Now pretend for a moment that you are your own “friend.”
If you were an outsider looking in at your own life, what advice would you give? Are there obvious changes you’d make?
When we remove our egos from our own situation, we can build a clearer picture of what needs to be done.
Maybe you need to stop obsessing about something. Maybe you need to make a change in a work or personal relationship. Maybe you need to prioritize your goals/activities better.
If you were your “friend”, think about what suggestions you’d make.
And then ask yourself, why haven’t you taken your own advice?
